Naturally, this means mopping, sweeping, dusting, shoveling rubble, and bitching at each other late into the night. At some point—perhaps more early morning than late night—the duo missed their bedrooms altogether and collapsed in a pile on the couch, utterly exhausted and still covered in ash.

It's why they find themselves in that same position (propped up against each other, Chrono with a feather duster still in his hand, Rosette sprawled in a very unladylike manner) the next morning.]

[There is a sort of bone deep exhaustion that follows that much work, leading to mercifully dreamless sleep. As it was, they might have missed the dawn or the hours after if not for a single, fateful event: Rosette, mistaking Chrono for her pillow, sleepily drags him under her and hugs him tightly.

[So after these occurrences, which all parties involved have accepted as absolute gospel-truth canon, two bristling morons have to make the most uncomfortable trek back to the apartment complex. In history.

Chrono rubs his wrists irritably as he walks, to distract from the awkwardness so thick that you could cut it with knife. Remarkably, somehow, this is the first time in his life he's been hogtied; he doesn't care for it.]

[Rosette spent quite a bit of their silent retreat fretting over how to cut that selfsame silence. She didn't exactly want to talk about it, but talking about nothing at all seemed even more horrible. They'd had more than enough times of simple, companionable silence... this one was filled with what that guy had said.]

[And clears as she fishes the tablet out of her pocket, hurriedly. She'd left it on just in case..]

[After they part ways with Mary Magdalene, Rosette stretches widely as they walk, replaying little bits of the conversation in her head.

Restraint wasn't something Chrono was known for, or even, honestly, particularly good at. Much less that much attention to what someone thought of them.]

She must be pretty important to you.

[On this particular occasion, he trails some ways behind her rather than keeping in stride, or taking the lead. His expression is clouded by 50 years of long-buried questions and worries.

He looks up sharply when addressed, though, like he'd forgotten he isn't alone.]

[As usual, it takes her a bit to realize that's HER phone. To her credit, she manages to catch the last bit this time as she fished the tablet out.]

Mm. We're still here! Finishing up a few last things. Did you forget something?

[It takes her a long moment of fretting to decide what and what not to write back to Break. For all that she's not sure how much he knows, she also made a promise...]

[Rosette didn't actually dream often, or if she did, they were floated off with the morning routine far too quickly for her to take note. But when she did, they were always vivid and tumultuous, steam vents of all the anxieties and guilt that had no other outlet.

The choked half shout is abruptly cut off as her head hits the bunk above her. She flops back into the bed, holding her face and just. JUST BREATHING.

Even the thought of going to sleep was repugnant, if not offensive at this point, the memory of the landscape and people burning aside. She rolls out of bed... and looks around for somewhere to GO. Something to DO.]

[ Chrono hasn't taken to sleeping very well, himself. He doesn't catapult from his nightmares like Rosette does, but that's likely for the best, given how much more frequent they are. After a few weeks he simply opted for preventative measures, and more often than not, forgoes sleep altogether.

He's done his best not to let on, but that usually only works when Rosette is asleep.

The sudden impact of a head upon the underside of his bed makes him jump, and as she rolls out of bed, Rosette might notice Chrono's head peer over the edge of his bunk, haloed by a soft dome of white light; his tablet, propped up to light his 14th game of Solitaire. ]

[ It's luck or happenstance that has them in the cabin today, rather than the castle. If he were being honest with himself, he prefers it that way.

After a brief stint of morning chores — feeding the fire, shoveling out the door — he peers around the corner to see if she's still in her typical morning coma. ]

[The morning coma, by a quick glance, was almost over with. The Rock stage of awareness was long gone, and the huddled ball of petulance had given away to a sitting position, eyes glassy and hair frayed in every which way.]
